Program Experience

The program is conducted in clinics serving the hospitals of Wayne State University and the Detroit Medical Center. A comprehensive exposure to all aspects of adult and pediatric clinical movement disorders is available.

The fellow will spend four half days per week in adult movement disorders clinics under the supervision of Dr. Peter LeWitt..  In the clinics, the fellow will follow both new and return patients, and will be responsible for obtaining a complete history and physical examination, formulating an assessment and plan, and reviewing it with the supervising physician.  In botulinum toxin clinic, the fellow will learn to assess abnormal movements, identify target muscles for injection, and perform EMG guided botulinum toxin injections.

The fellow will have the opportunity for inpatient consults at Harper University hospital, Detroit Receiving Hospital, Karmanos Cancer Hospital, and the Michigan Institute of Rehabilitation.

The fellow is expected to develop or become involved in a research project under the direction of the program faculty.

Time commitment: There is no night or weekend call for the Movement Disorders Fellowship. The fellow may choose to attend an annual three-day course "A Comprehensive Review of Movement Disorders for the Clinical Practitioner" to participate in additional movement disorders experience at another clinical center, and to attend a national meeting to present a research report.
